  • Macy's, Kohl's post positive comps

    NEW YORK — Department store retailers reported strong sales in January as shoppers responded positively to post-holiday clearance events.  

    Overall, the 20 retailers reporting January comps saw an average rise of 5.1%, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers, which beat the mall trade group’s 3% forecasted rise.

  • Discount sector posts strong January showing

    New York -- There were few missteps among the discounters in January, as most posted strong results, many surpassing Wall Street expectations.

    Target reported a same-store sales rise of 3.1%, topping Wall Street expectations. Total sales surged 29.6% to $5.97 billion in January.

  • Grocery exec joins supply chain board

    Former Delhaize America CEO and Hannaford Bros. executive Ronald C. Hodge has joined the board of the Park City Group.

    Hodge most recently served as an advisor to Delhaize America following a stint as CEO from March 2011 to Octomber 2012. Prior to Delhaize, Hodge spent 31 years with Hannaford Bros. Co., during which time he held various executive roles, including the position of CEO from 2001 to 2011.

  • Sally Beauty Q1 earnings double, but misses Street

    Denton, Texas -- Sally Beauty Holdings Inc. reported Thursday that profit in the first quarter nearly doubled year-over-year – from $30.1 million to $59 million – but results still missed Wall Street expectations.

    Revenue rose 4.7% to $905.4 million, shy of analysts’ expected $915.1 million in revenue.

    Same-store sales rose 2.8%.

     

  • NCR buys retail software provider

    DULUTH, Ga. -- NCR, an electronics company specializing in POS and self-service systems, announced it has completed its acquisition of Retalix Ltd., a leading global provider of retail software and services.

  • Predictix names head of Europe, Middle East and Africa sales

    ATLANTA — Retail merchandising solutions provider, Predictix, has named Tom Fischer managing director for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Fischer will be responsible for managing Predictix’ EMEA sales, client implementation and support activities in a growing international business.

  • Alco sales up on strength of seasonal products

    ABILENE, Kan — Alco reported that total sales, excluding fuel, increased 26% to $34.8 million for the fiscal five-week period ended Feb. 3, compared with $27.6 million during the four-week period of the prior year. On a same-store basis, excluding fuel, sales increased 21.4% from a year earlier.
