  • Clarks, Bostonian brands get new chairman

    The Clarks Group, the company behind the Clarks and Bostonian brands that sells more than 50 million pairs of shoes annually, has named a new chairman.

    The privately held United Kingdom-based company, which operates specialty footwear stores in the U.S. and worldwide, elevated Thomas O’Neill to the role of chairman from his position as a non-executive director on the board. He fills a position previously held by Peter Davies to lead the world’s number one non-athletic footwear brand with annual sales of roughly $2.4 billion and a presence in 100 markets.

  • Dollar General Q3 rises 14%; ups 2014 expansion to 700 new stores

    Goodlettsville, Tenn. – Dollar General delivered some impressive financial results for the third quarter of fiscal 2013 as traffic improved and shoppers spent more per transaction on average. The retailer said it plans to open approximately 700 stores in fiscal 2014 and remodel or relocate approximately 525 locations, expanding store selling square footage by 6% to 7%.

    Dollar General’s net income increased by a better-than-expected 14% to $237 million in the 2013 third quarter compared to $208 million in year-ago period.

  • Conn’s doubles Q3 net income

    The Woodlands, Texas – Conn’s more than doubled its consolidated net income in the third quarter of fiscal 2014 compared to the same period in the prior year, growing to about $24.4 million from $11.8 million. Total net sales increased a healthy 51%, to $310.9 million from $206.4 million.

  • Jos. A. Bank boosts sales in Q3

    Jos. A. Bank slightly increased its net income to $13.6 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2013 from $13.3 million in the same period a year earlier. The retailer also saw its net sales grow about 6% to $247.5 million, from $232.8 million.

    Same-store sales declined 0.1%, although direct marketing sales increased 23.5% and combined same-store and online sales increased 2.4%. Jos. A. Bank incurred $1.2 million of legal and professional expenses in connection with the company's bid to acquire The Men's Wearhouse.

  • StreetMac to manage recapitalized Stratford Square Mall

    Northbrook, Ill.StreetMac Asset Managers and Five Mile Capital Partners LLC have joined forces to recapitalize Stratford Square Mall in Bloomingdale, Ill.

    The 1.3 million-sq.-ft. mall features more than 100 stores and restaurants, a 14-screen cinema complex and national retail anchors including Macy’s, Sears, Carson Pirie Scott, J.C. Penney, Kohl’s and Burlington Coat Factory.

  • Kellwood Company appoints new CEO

    Kellwood Company, a leading apparel manufacturer and marketer owned by affiliates of Sun Capital Partners, has elevated Lynn Shanahan to the position of CEO of Kellwood Company, following the initial public offering of Vince, completed Nov. 27.

  • J. Crew Q3 profit up 6.8%

    New York -- J. Crew Group Inc.'s third-quarter earnings rose 6.8% on improved sales.

    For the period ended Nov. 2, J. Crew reported a profit of $35.4 million, up from $33.2 million, a year earlier.

    Revenue increased 11% to $618.8 million. Same-store sales role 5%.

    Retail store sales grew 7.3% to $420.2 million, while direct sales climbed 21% to $189.8 million.

  • Guess Q3 profit dips

    Los Angeles -- Guess Inc. saw profit in the third quarter dip 3.4% to $35.4 million, from $36.6 million for the third quarter last year. Results, however, surpassed company expectations.

    "We are pleased to report better than expected third quarter earnings. We delivered revenues within the range of our expectations and through our continued focus on cost control have been able to deliver profitability at the high end of our expectations,” said Paul Marciano, CEO.
