  • Restoration Hardware names former Limited Brands exec to board

    Corte Madera, Calif. -- Restoration Hardware Holdings Inc. has named Dr. Leonard Schlesinger to its board of directors. He will also serve as the chairman of the board’s compensation committee.

    Schlesinger has held executive leadership positions at various retail and consumer brands, including vice chairman and COO of Limited Brands from 1999 to 2007, and has served for more than 20 years as a professor of business administration at Harvard Business School, and previously served as the president of Babson College.

  • Recurring revenue management co. Aria taps VP of products

    Aria Systems, a leading innovator in recurring revenue management, has appointed Adeeb Shanaa to VP of products as part of the company's global expansion initiative. Shanaa will report directly to Aria Systems CEO Tom Dibble.

  • Weather impacts Aaron’s earnings, revenues in Q1

    Atlanta – Severe weather had a negative impact on financial performance at Aaron’s Inc. during the first quarter of fiscal 2014. Compared to the same period a year earlier, Aaron’s net earnings declined 25% to $38.3 million from $51 million.

    Revenues dropped 1% to $585.4 million compared to $593.0 million for the first quarter in 2013. Same-store sales shrank 2.1%.

  • Tractor Supply Co. posts strong Q1; on track to open 100+ stores this year

    Brentwood, Tenn. -- Tractor Supply Co. reported an 11% rise in profit for the quarter ended March 29, to $48.8 million from $44 million last year.

    Revenue rose 9% to $1.18 billion, and same-store sales increased 2.2% versus a 0.5% increase in the prior year period.

    For the full year, the company said it expects capital expenditures to range between $240 million and $250 million, including spending to support 102 to 106 new store openings and construction of the new Store Support Center to open in 2014.

     

  • Cabela's sees profit plummet by half in first quarter

    Sidney, Neb. -- With last year’s strong first quarter fueled by a firearms and ammunition sales surge, outdoor retailer Cabela’s Inc. saw this year’s quarter end on a less stellar note.

    Revenue in the first quarter fell 9.6% to $725.8 million; retail store revenue decreased 9.4% to $440.9 million. Same-store sales plunged 21.7%, compared to the same period last year.

    Net income was $25.7 million, compared to $49.8 million in the year-ago quarter.

  • Additions to Supervalu board

    Supervalu has elected Frank (Terry) Savage and Mathew Pendo to its board of directors.

    Savage and Pendo were both appointed to the board as designees of Symphony Investors, a Cerberus Capital Management-led investor consortium, under the terms of the tender offer agreement entered into with Symphony Investors and Cerberus in connection with Supervalu’s sale of five banners to an affiliate of Symphony Investors. Symphony Investors owns approximately 20.9% of Supervalu’s outstanding common stock.

  • Herrick Co. acquires 44 CVS-leased retail properties for $190 million

    Boca Raton, Fla. – Real estate investment firm The Herrick Company Inc., has acquired 44 retail/pharmacy properties located throughout the U.S. The properties, all of which are occupied under long-term triple net leases with CVS Caremark, were acquired for approximately $190 million.

  • Cabela’s shoppers exercise gun control

    A precipitous decline in gun and ammunition sales caused a 21.7% drop in first quarter same store sales at Cabela’s where profits were half the prior year level.

    Firearms and ammunition sales declined 39% and 32%, respectively, during the first quarter ended March 29, and total company sales declined 9.6% to $725.8 million. Profits totaled $25.7 million, or 36 cents a share, compared to $49.8 million, or 70 cents a share, the first quarter the prior year.
