  • Big Lots names Campisi CEO

    Columbus, Ohio -- Discount retailer Big Lots has named David Campisi, 57, as CEO and president of Big Lots, effective May 6. The 30-year-industry veteran most recently served as chairman and CEO of Respect Your Universe, a publicly traded company focused on premium performance apparel and equipment. Prior to that, he was an executive with The Sports Authority for nearly seven years, rising to become chairman and CEO.

  • CVS joins White House effort to hire vets, military spouses

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark announced that it was among several national companies represented at an event hosted on Tuesday by President Obama, VP Joe Biden, First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden as part of the Joining Forces initiative.

     

    During the event, the administration asked companies participating in the Joining Forces initiative to hire and train 435,000 veterans and military spouses over the next five years, after nearly tripling its original goal of hiring 100,000 veterans and military spouses by the end of 2013.

    MINNEAPOLIS — General Mills has released its 2013 Global Responsibility Report, which outlines the company's progress and commitments in the areas of health, environment, sourcing, workplace and community engagement. 

     

  • Aeropostale Jury: Finazzo must forfeit $25-plus million

    New York -- A Monday report by Bloomberg said that ex-Aeropostale executive Christopher Finazzo – convicted last week on 14 counts of  fraud against the retailer – has been order to forfeit more than $25 million.

    Jurors unanimously found that Finazzo must turn over $25.79 million in cash, interest in four Calverton, N.Y., properties and as much as $300,000 from a trading account, according to the Bloomberg report, which cited a statement by Robert Nardoza, spokesman for Brooklyn U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch.

    ST. PAUL, Minn. — Leading firearms retailer Gander Mountain will open the state’s first dedicated Gander Mtn. Firearms Super Center in Rogers, Minn., by the end of April. It will be the retailer’s 12th store in the state.
