  • Rose Paving Co. CEO honored at the Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards

    Bridgeview, Ill. -- Alan Rose, CEO and majority owner of Rose Paving Co., a leader in national parking lot management, has been honored at the 2013 Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards (EEAs), sponsored by The Daily Herald Business Ledger, with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Twenty business owners in total were recognized at a ceremony on Sept. 11 hosted by The Daily Herald Business Ledger. The EEAs were presented for the 14th consecutive year, and approximately 160 people were in attendance at the event.

  • No Obama, but Walmart Asia CEO touts progress in Bali

    The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) organization’s CEO Summit is winding down in Bali, Indonesia and Walmart Asia CEO Scott Price used the event as a platform to share progress the company has made on a variety of fronts.

    Price, who serves as chairman of the National Center for APEC, was among a roster of high level business executive and global political leaders to attend the event which ran from October 1-8. Notably absent was U.S. President Barack Obama who had canceled his visit at the last minute due to the U.S. government shutdown.

    Leading food company ConAgra is out with its 2013 Citizenship Report detailing progress on a three-pronged citizenship platform of, “good for you, good for the community and good for the planet.”

  • Giant-Carlisle turns 90

    Ahold USA-owned supermarket chain Giant Food Stores celebrated its 90th birthday.

    The supermarket banner, which operates nearly 200 stores under the Giant and Martin's Food Markets brands in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia, marked its anniversary Friday morning at a store in its hometown of Carlisle, Pa. Customers at all the company's 200 stores will receive free slices of cake and free apple slices Friday.

  • West Elm makes itself at home in Alabama

    Home furnishings retailer West Elm is opening a retail store in Birmingham, Ala., Thursday, Oct. 10 — it’s first ever location in the state.

    The nearly 8,000-sq.ft. store located in the Summit Birmingham shopping center will feature the brand’s mix of furniture, home décor, gifts and artist collaborations. The store will also feature an assortment of local handcrafted products sourced through Etsy.com, including one-of-a-kind furniture, lighting, leather goods and wall art.

  • Sam's Club promotes breast cancer awareness

    Sam’s Club maintains its emphasis on health care this month with a traffic-generating promotion tied in with breast cancer awareness.

    In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Sam's Club is offering free women's health screenings to members and non-members on Saturday, October 12 from 11a.m. to 3p.m. at its 576 clubs which contain a pharmacy.

  • March of Dimes to honor NRDC

    Purchase, N.Y. — The March of Dimes Greater N.Y. Chapter and the Real Estate Award Breakfast Committee have named National Realty & Development Corp. as the 2013 Real Estate Award recipient.

    This year marks the 26th annual Real Estate Award Breakfast and the 75th aAnniversary of the March of Dimes. The breakfast will be held November 14 at the Renaissance Westchester Hotel in White Plains.
