  • Body Shop turns 40 with new sustainability goals

    The Body Shop, a pioneer of ethical business practices in retail, is reaffirming its commitment to corporate social responsibility as it celebrates its 40th anniversary.

    The all-natural beauty retailer has unveiled a new CSR strategy, “Enrich Not Exploit,” that extends to all areas of its operations and is aimed at making the company “the world’s most ethical and truly sustainable global business.”

  • Target embraces special needs community with a Caroline's Cart at each store

    Target is rolling Caroline’s Cart out to all of its stores nationwide beginning March 19, the retailer recently announced. The vast majority of Target locations, with the exception of smaller format stores where there are no full-size carts, will have at least one Caroline’s Cart, and many will have more, depending on their guests’ needs, Target said.

  • Restoration Hardware to restore historic building in San Francisco

    Pier 70, the extensive waterfront redevelopment project in San Francisco, has announced its first official tenant and it’s a big one.

    Restoration Hardware will open a five-story, 60,000-sq.ft. gallery-store in the historic Bethlehem Steel building. The high-end home furnishings retailer, slated to open in 2017, will be a subtenant of Orton Development, which master-leased eight buildings along 20th Street that will comprise the core of Pier 70.

  • JCPenney considering sale of headquarters

    JCPenney is pursuing a possible sale and partial leaseback of its headquarters building in Plano, Texas, as part of an ongoing effort to reduce debt and manage expenses.

    The company announced Friday that a combination of favorable market conditions and a surplus of available square footage within the building make this an attractive real estate opportunity.

  • Meijer donates $500,000 to help residents of Flint, Michigan

    Meijer is continuing to provide support to Flint with a $500,000 donation to help meet the needs of the city’s residents, who are struggling with contaminated drinking water.

    The retailer’s donation will be distributed to three nonprofit organizations that are coordinating a variety of relief efforts related to the ongoing water crisis, including:

    Lumber Liquidators has been handed its penalty by the U.S. Department of Justice over allegations of illegal sourcing, which will amount to $13.2 million in fines and forfeitures.

  • Phillips Edison appoints VP of Community Partnerships

    Salt Lake City -- Phillips Edison & Company announced it has promoted Scott Adair to VP of Community Partnerships, effective immediately. Adair, who previously served as assistant director of Property Management, will remain based in Salt Lake City.

    In his new role, created as a result of the company’s Innovation Labs’ ‘Community Engagement Initiative,’ Adair is responsible for cultivating new and managing existing relationships with community leaders to build goodwill and advance business objectives.

  • Food Lion hits 1 million Facebook fans, provides meals

    Food Lion is feeling good about recently reaching the milestone of 1 million Facebook fans, and is sharing the positive vibes.

    In recognition of this social media achievement, Food Lion is donating 1 million meals to those in need. The meals will be donated to Feeding America in the form of a monetary donation (Feeding America provides an average of 11 meals for every dollar donated) and distributed evenly among 30 local Feeding America member food banks within the grocer's service area. The donation will span across its 10-state footprint.
