  • March of Dimes names CVS CEO Citizen of the Year

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. — CVS Caremark president and CEO Larry Merlo has been named the 2013 March of Dimes Rhode Island 2013 Citizen of the Year for his and the company’s ongoing support of the March of Dimes mission.

    Merlo will be honored for the achievement at a June 18 reception held at the Providence Public Library. The recognition and fundraising event will take place as part of the 75th anniversary year of March of Dimes and the 50th anniversary year of the pharmacy innovation company.

  • Family Dollar recognizes Trade Area Systems

    Matthews, N.C. – Family Dollar presented its annual Strategic IT Partner of the Year award to Trade Area Systems at its IT Strategic Partner last month. In September 2012, Family Dollar implemented the Trade Area Systems TAS Unity solution to give real estate managers mobile access to a database of real estate photos, comments and other relevant data.

  • Midwest Gloves display solid gold in Vegas

    Originally developed by Midwest Glove to grow gardening category sales, the "Head-to-Toe" spinner has just received a Gold Merchandising Award at the National Hardware Show in Las Vegas for merchandising distinction. 

    The innovative floor stand allows retailers to offer a customized mix of hats, gloves and footwear manufactured by Midwest Gloves. In addition to the customizable assortment capabilities, a small 1.25-sq.-ft. footprint means the display can be strategically located to maximize sales without disrupting customer traffic.

  • Dollar General announces literacy award winners

    GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded more than $6 million in grants to more than 725 schools, nonprofits and literacy organizations to support adult, family and summer literacy programs.

  • Family Dollar honors IT partner at annual summit

    MATTHEWS, N.C. — Family Dollar has named Trade Area Systems, a supplier of enterprise market knowledge systems for retail, its IT Strategic Partner of the Year. The award was presented during the company’s fifth annual IT Strategic Partner Summit.

    Family Dollar worked with Trade Area Systems in September 2012 to implement TAS Unity, an editable, data-collection software system that allows real estate managers to input photos and comments about stores, competitors and opportunities directly into the system from their mobile devices.

  • SC Johnson CEO hailed champion of literacy

    RACINE, Wis. — Fisk Johnson, SC Johnson's chairman and CEO, has been named "Friend of the Library" by the Racine Public Library. Johnson received the award for sponsoring the Racine Reads: Dream Big! program during the 2011-2012 school year. 

    The program challenged 10,000 local elementary school students to read 1 million books during the school year — an average of 100 books per child. Students rose to the challenge, by more than quadrupling the national average, by reading 180 books per student and 1.8 million books in total. 

  • Campbell, Pepperidge Farm honored for thinking outside the box

    CAMDEN, N.J. — Campbell Soup Company and its Pepperidge Farm division were among those honored for consumer-driven innovation in product packaging at the DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation.

  • Kroger exec named YWCA Career Woman of Achievement

    CINCINNATI — Kroger corporate officer and SVP for human resources Kathleen Barclay was among 10 women named a YWCA Career Woman of Achievement. 

    "I am honored and humbled to receive this recognition from the YWCA, a truly exceptional organization in Cincinnati and across the country," said Barclay. "I am grateful to work in an industry that provides the incredible opportunity to touch the lives of a very large group of women inside and outside our company, each and every day."
