  • Divaris names new managing broker in Richmond, Va.

    Virginia Beach, Va. — Divaris Real Estate has named Read F. Goode, Jr. to the post of managing broker of its Richmond, Va., office. Goode will focus on commercial sales and leasing services, land and shopping center acquisition and development.

    Goode has more than two decades of brokerage and commercial development experience throughout central Virginia. He joins Divaris from S.L. Nusbaum Realty Co. where he specialized in commercial land development and sales.

  • Retail imports expected to drop in February

    Washington, D.C. -- Import volume at the nation’s major retail container ports is expected to drop 8.4% in February from the same time last year as the shipping cycle reaches its slowest month of the year, according to the monthly Global Port Tracker report released by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates.

  • Rose Paving Co. to raise funds for ASPCA at 50th annual SPECS event

    Bridgeview, Ill. -- Rose Paving Company is set to support the efforts of the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) through a multi-event fundraising campaign in 2014. Rose Paving will host a fundraising activity at industry trade shows and expos across the country, giving registered attendees the opportunity to help support the ASPCA’s mission to prevent cruelty towards animals.

  • RILA applauds "practical" reg reform

    Government regulators tend to complicate retailers’ lives more often than not, but one federal agency is winning praise from a key trade group for its common sense approach to compliance.

    Yesterday, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released its Notice of Data Availability (NODA) as part of its process to improve existing regulations that have been applied to the handling of unsold or returned consumer products at retail facilities. The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) released the following statement today in response to EPA’s notice.

  • NRF unveils 2014 economic forecast

    Retail industry sales (which exclude automobiles, gas stations, and restaurants) will increase 4.1% in 2014, up from the preliminary 3.7% growth seen in 2013, according to the National Retail Federation. The association’s 2014 economic forecast calls for online sales to grow between 9% and 12%.

    A number of factors contributed to NRF’s 2014 economic forecast, including:

  • RILA: Raise threshold of full-time status under ACA

    Arlington, Va. -- The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) is encouraged by passage of the Save American Workers Act of 2013 (H.R. 2575) out of the Ways and Means Committee on Tuesday. According to RILA, the act is an important first step in changing the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) definition of full-time employees from 30 hours of service to a definition more in-line with employment practices.
