Biden meets with CEOs about supply chain issues; Walmart cites improvements

Retail executives participated in a roundtable discussion with President Biden on holiday supply chain issues.

The CEOs of Kroger, Best Buy, Etsy were among executives who met with President Biden at the White House on Monday to discuss the state of holiday supply chain challenges.

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon and CVS Health CEO Karen Lynch attended the meeting virtually.

“I want to hear from each of you about what you’re seeing this holiday season, how well prepared are you to have products you need on your shelves, and how you’ve innovated and hired to overcome these supply chain challenges you have,” the president said in opening remarks.

Biden questioned McMillion about whether Walmart had experienced improvements in the rate of its goods flowing through ports as a result of recent actions by the administration. McMillion said the chain had seen a 26% increase in throughput at ports nationwide in the past four weeks, reported CNBC. McMillion said the flow through increase was even higher — at 51% —   at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
