Best Buy is investing in clean energy.
The consumer electronics giant, in partnership with U.S. Bank and Longroad Energy, is part of the Little Bear Solar Project in Fresno County, Calif. The project is set to produce 480,000-megawatt hours of electricity annually for the local power grid, enough to power the equivalent of approximately 715 Best Buy stores.
“Sustainability is at the core of what we do, and we are proud to be making an investment that will have a positive impact on our communities and the environment,” said Tim Dunn, head of environmental sustainability at Best Buy. “We are committed to helping our planet by reducing our carbon emissions and doing what we can to address climate change.”
To help meet its sustainability goals, in June, Best Buy unveiled Best Buy Solar in Martin, S.C., which produces 174,000 megawatt-hours of clean electricity annually for the local power grid. That’s equivalent to powering 260 Best Buy stores for a full year.
Since 2009, Best Buy’s carbon reduction efforts have cut its emissions by more than half. Earlier this year it signed The Climate Pledge, a commitment to be carbon neutral across our operations by 2040 — a decade faster than its previous goal of 2050.
