Best Buy is rolling out a new membership program that costs $199.99 per year.
Best Buy is rolling out an annual membership program nationwide that includes special holiday perks and members-only deals. The company started testing the program at select locations in April.
The consumer electronics giant’s new Totaltech program, which costs $199.99 per year, includes free round-the-clock Geek Squad tech support and access to a 24/7 VIP service with dedicated phone and chat teams. (The Geek Squad support is for all the technology in a member’s home, regardless of where it was purchased.)
It also includes exclusive member prices on merchandise, up to 24 months of product protection on most Best Buy purchases, free delivery and standard installation, 20% off labor for repairs and advanced services and an extended 60-day return and exchange window on most products, among other features.
But as shipping delays and a chip shortage threaten to make for tech product shortages, the program’s biggest benefit may be a holiday perk: Members will also receive exclusive access to some of the season’s hardest-to-find products during the holiday season. They also will have access to a series of special events that offer exclusive deals on some of the hottest tech via “Member Monday,” which kicks off Monday, Oct. 18 and will run select weeks throughout the holiday season. (The events will include some deals for customers who are part of Best Buy’s existing free membership program, My Best Buy, too.)
“Technology plays an increasingly crucial role in our lives today, and each customer needs technology in a different way,” said Allison Peterson, chief customer officer, Best Buy. “That’s why we created Totaltech, to not only meet all of these needs, but also to give them a heightened sense of confidence – in getting a great price, in using their tech and by knowing we have their back if something goes wrong.”
