Batteries Plus continues aggressive expansion

Batteries Plus plans to open 39 new stores in 2024.

Batteries Plus has ambitious expansion plans for the remainder of 2024 — including putting down roots in new territories.

The consumer and business specialty battery franchise opened eight new stores in the first quarter, with locations spanning Connecticut, Nevada, California, Colorado, New York and Florida. These new stores kicked off the company's goal of opening 39 stores and signing 45 additional locations before the end of the year.

The specialty retailer's year-end goal is getting an additional boost with the recent signing of 22 new territories across Michigan, Texas, Virginia, Ohio and Arizona. The latter was a result of Batteries Plus’ Market Stewardship program which awards franchisees an entire market. This is a hybrid program typically found in Master Franchise (MFA) and Area Development (ADA) Agreements.

"The proven nature of our franchise opportunity continues to speak for itself; attracting a continuous stream of entrepreneurs wanting to be a part of a community-oriented, people-driven, profitable concept," said Joe Malmuth, chief development officer for Batteries Plus. "We're committed to the success of our franchise partners, as evidenced by the record month of systemwide sales we saw in January of this year. A record that we continuously break, and which franchisees are wanting to take advantage of.”

Batteries Plus’ current expansion plan is set to outpace the 30 new stores it opened in 2023. A majority of these new locations are in the South, including four in Texas, three in Georgia, and a store in Puerto Rico. The company also ended the year with 54 newly signed franchise agreements.

"The franchise will only continue to break ground in new markets from here, alongside new and existing franchisees, making our brand, and the essential service it offers communities, more accessible than ever," said Batteries Plus VP of franchise development Vic Daher. "Much of that growth will come as seasoned multi-unit owners increasingly recognize and take advantage of the benefits that Batteries Plus can offer in diversifying their portfolio.”

Founded in 1988, Batteries Plus is headquartered in Hartland, Wis., and operates over 800 locations nationwide.
