An Apple store in Oklahoma has become the tech giant’s second U.S. store to win union representation.
Fifty-six workers at the Apple store in Penn Square Mall, Oklahoma City, voted to be represented by The Communications Workers of America, and 32 voted against it, according to a preliminary tally by the National Labor Relations Board. Apple Retail Union/CWA will represent Apple salespeople, genius admins, technicians, creatives, and operations specialists, according to a release by the CWA.
The union victory in Oklahoma follows a vote to unionize by Apple store employees in Towson, Md., in June. The employees in the Towson store are represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. (Apple has approximately 270 stores in the U.S.)
The National Labor Relations Board will certify the Oklahoma City store votes this week. Once that happens, Apple is required to bargain with the union over working conditions.
In a statement emailed to The Associated Press on Saturday, Apple said, “We believe the open, direct and collaborative relationship we have with our valued team members is the best way to provide an excellent experience for our customers, and for our teams.”
