Amazon is keeping up one of New York City’s most iconic and time-honored traditions.
The online giant has unveiled holiday window displays at its building on Fifth Avenue (424-434). The multi-story, 650,000-sq.-ft. building is a designated city landmark and the former home of Lord & Taylor. When it opened in 1914, it was one of the nation’s first department stores. Over the years, it became known for its elaborate holiday windows.
The displays are inspired by the 2024 Amazon Holiday Kids Gift Book, which features a wide selection of toys and gifts, an original story and activities and games. Each window display includes a QR code that lets customers shop products featured in the gift book, whose theme this year is “share the joy.”
“The window display is a physical manifestation of the 2024 Amazon Kids Gift Book and a way to bring the book’s beloved characters to life,” the company said. “Amazon’s window displays will connect with kids and families to immerse themselves in the joy of holiday magic and discover ways to gift and celebrate through the season."
Amazon opened offices on the site in 2023 after it undertook an extensive, years-long renovation of the building, which it acquired from WeWork in 2020.
