Amazon reportedly mulls opening pharmacies

Is Amazon considering entering another brick-and-mortar segment?

Business Insider reported that Amazon is considering opening retail pharmacies — either freestanding on inside its Whole Food Market stores. The talks are still in the exploratory stages, according to the report, and if Amazon does decide to go ahead, it could take more than a year for the company to start opening stores.

In November, Amazon launched an online pharmacy for delivering prescription medications in the United States. Amazon Pharmacy is a distinct offering from PillPack, the online pharmacy startup Amazon acquired in 2018. Now known as PillPack by Amazon, it specializes in delivering presorted dose packaging for managing multiple daily medications for chronic conditions.
