Amazon reported better-than-expected results for its second quarter, which included a strong performance by its AWS cloud computing unit.

The online giant said that AWS sales increased 36.7% year-over-year to $42.2 billion, its fastest growth in 18 quarters.  And its AI and Chips businesses each eclipsed run rates of more than $25 billion.

Amazon raised its capital spending forecast for the year amid strong artificial intelligence demand. The company now expects capital expenditures to hit $220 billion, CEO Andy Jassy said on the earnings call.  Earlier this year, in February, the company said capital expenditures would reach $200 billion this year.

Jassy noted on the call that Amazon is the second largest grocer in the U.S., and its grocery business continues growing quickly across perishables and non-perishables.

"The number of monthly active perishables customers grew over 50% since the start of the year, same-day orders with perishables average over three times more units per order, and fresh groceries now make up six of the top 20 best sellers on Amazon.com.," he told analysts.

The company's pharmacy business is also growing. The number of new customers for Amazon Pharmacy grew  by more than two times in the first six months of the year, and same-day prescription deliveries nearly five times, Jassy said.

Second Quarter

Amazon's net income increased to $62.6 billion in the quarter ended June, or $5.75 per diluted share, compared with $18.2 billion, or $1.68 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter.  Operating income increased to $27.5 billion in the second quarter, compared with $19.2 billion in second quarter 2025.

Net sales increased 20% to $200.6 billion. North America segment sales increased 16% year-over-year to $116.2 billion.  International segment sales increased 15% year-over-year to $42.2 billion. In the earnings statement, Jassy said that the company achieved  record delivery speeds for Prime members in the first half of the year, with over 40% more items delivered same-day or overnight. He noted that grocery and everyday essentials grew "meaningfully" faster than the rest of the business.

"Advertising had another strong quarter with 26% year-over-year growth," Jassy said. "There’s a lot to be excited about, and we have much more coming for customers in the second half of the year and beyond.”

For the current quarter, Amazon forecast revenue between $197 billion and $202 billion.
