Amazon offers Flex drivers perks including cash back, shift priority

A new program called Amazon Flex Rewards recognizes drivers who make the most deliveries.

The program is aimed at freelance drivers who deliver orders for Amazon and/or Whole Foods via Amazon Flex, an on-demand service that offers qualified independent contractors the chance to pick up shifts where they earn a fee per delivery using their own vehicles (plus optional customer tips).

By enrolling in Amazon Flex, participating drivers will earn at least one point per delivery and 10 points per scheduled block (which typically lasts three to six hours). Drivers with “great” standing will earn at least two points per delivery and 20 points per block, while drivers with “fantastic” standing will earn at least three points per delivery and 30 points per block.

Drivers in the program are eligible to receive an Amazon Flex debit card. As they start collecting points, they can “level up” in the rewards they receive, such as a graduated set of cash back rewards for debit card purchases. A preferred scheduling reward provides reserved offers that are customized based on a driver’s preferred delivery stations, days of week, and times of day. As drivers level up, they will see more reserved offers and have more time to decide if they want to accept a specific block.

Amazon Flex participants will also receive access to a gradually increasing assortment of discounts, as well as tools for managing insurance and taxes. Drivers gain access to Level 1 rewards as soon as they complete one delivery. Once they earn enough points to level up, they gain access to more rewards, reaching level four for maximum perks with 6,500 points. Every three months, a driver’s points reset and a new earning period begins.
