Amazon offering full-time jobs to 125,000 temporary workers

Amazon is giving a big boost to its full-time workforce.

The online giant said it will convert 125,000 of the 175,000 temporary roles it has put in place since March to permanent, full-time positions if the employee wants to stay with the company long term. (Amazon noted that some of the employees it hired on a temporary basis may choose to return to their previous job and others may choose to stay with the company in seasonal or part-time roles.)

“As the long-term picture becomes more clear…We hope the option for so many people to stay on long-term at Amazon will help alleviate some of the ongoing burden of unemployment in communities across the U.S. as we all work together to fight through this crisis,” Amazon stated.

Permanent, full-time roles at Amazon have a minimum starting wage of at least $15 an hour along with a comprehensive benefits package.

Similar to Walmart, Kroger and some other retailers, Amazon ramped up hiring amid the COVID-19 crisis to meet a surge in demand.
