Amazon introduces fixed telehealth pricing for Prime members
Customers only pay for the cost of the consultation and medication (if prescribed); there are no additional fees, expenses, or subscriptions needed beyond Amazon Prime. Prime members in nearly a dozen cities, such as Los Angeles, New York City and Seattle, are also eligible for free same-day delivery of their medications.
To gain access to the discounted, cash-pay pricing on prescription medications, customers use Prime Rx at checkout. Prime Rx is a program for Prime members to save up to 80% on prescriptions when not using insurance. Prime members who use Amazon One Medical Pay-per-visit can select Prime Rx directly from their Pay-per-visit treatment plan to check-out with Amazon Pharmacy.
"We're committed to giving customers convenient, affordable care options that put them in control of their health," said Bergen Penhart, GM for Amazon One Medical Pay-per-visit. "This new offering makes it easy for Prime members to get expert clinical advice and prescribed treatments for common health, beauty, and lifestyle needs, all from the comfort of home."
According to CNBC, Amazon is targeting direct-to-consumer healthcare providers such as Him and Hers, whose stock price suffered at least a short-term drop in value following the fixed-price telehealth announcement, with this new offering.
Amazon One Medical Pay-per-visit does not accept insurance for telehealth visits. Amazon Pharmacy accepts most insurance plans, but Prime Rx savings only apply when not using insurance. Amazon Pharmacy and Amazon One Medical both have a range of offerings for customers who prefer to pay with insurance.
