Amazon brings seven-hour Prime delivery to Canada
Amazon is introducing its "faster" same-day delivery to Prime members in select Canadian markets.
The e-tail giant, which introduced the U.S. version of its faster same-day Prime offering (with delivery in as little as five hours) in 2020 and has since expanded, is now rolling it out in Canada.
Prime members in the Greater Toronto Area, Southwestern Ontario, and Metro Vancouver can now obtain faster same-day delivery from click to doorstep in as fast as 7 hours, with the option to select a new 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. delivery window at checkout.
Leveraging the new expedited service, Prime members can select from millions of items across more than 35 product categories to be delivered the same day for free on eligible orders over $25. Prime members can find Same-Day eligible items by looking for items marked “Prime Same-Day” in search results or on detail pages, or by clicking the "Get it Today" filter in search results on the Amazon shopping app or on desktop.
In addition, Prime orders placed by midnight in these Canadian markets will arrive by the next morning. Items eligible for this new delivery benefit will be marked "Prime Overnight" in search results or on detail pages. Customers can then selecting between two delivery windows – 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. or 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
According to Amazon Canada, these delivery speed improvements come primarily from placing products closer to customers, which means items are traveling fewer miles and experiencing fewer handoffs between the time an order is placed and the time it arrives on customers’ doorsteps. Amazon says it has allocated over $750 million globally this year for technologies, resources, training, and programs to further improve safety across our network.

"We know Prime members value being able to order from our wide selection and get fast delivery, and we’re continuing to innovate and invest to further accelerate delivery speeds across the country and around the world," said Eva Lorenz, country manager, Amazon Canada, in a corporate blog post. "With more than 20 million items available with Prime free shipping, we’re continuing to give Prime members more value than ever."
Same-day delivery is free for Canadian Prime members in select areas on eligible orders over $25, or $6.99 for delivery on orders under $25. Customers who aren’t Prime members can choose same-day delivery for $11.99 per order. Amazon introduced its Prime paid membership program in Canada in 2013.
