7-Eleven expands on-demand adult beverage delivery offering

7-Eleven is teaming up with Drizly for alcohol delivery.

The country’s largest convenience retailer is entering a new partnership that makes alcohol available for online delivery from over 1,200 stores.Following a successful pilot program with 190 stores, over 1,200 7-Eleven stores across Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Virginia, and Washington state now offer delivery of alcoholic beverages via the Drizly specialized alcohol delivery platform. Alcohol deliveries are available for adults of legal drinking age in under 60 minutes.

Customers in areas served by those stores can order via the Drizly app or Drizly.com to obtain home delivery for a range of adult beverages from 7-Eleven. The companies plan to expand the collaboration in the coming months to bring Drizly's alcohol delivery to over 2,000 7-Eleven stores nationwide.

Consumers can already place orders for online delivery via Instacart at nearly 6,000 7-Eleven stores across the U.S. Building upon an initial pilot it launched at 750 stores in select markets in September 2020. In May 2021, the convenience giant made Instacart delivery available across 33 states and Washington, D.C. Customers across seven states -- including California, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Missouri, New York and Ohio -- and Washington, D.C., now also have access to alcohol delivery from 7-Eleven stores in as fast as 30 minutes. The companies plan to scale alcohol delivery to more states and stores over the coming months.

Other retailers that provide on-demand alcohol delivery include Instacart partners Meijer and Sam’s Club; as well as Drinks partners Macy’s and Kroger. Also, retailers including Target and Lowe’s Foods include alcohol in their same-day online delivery offerings.

Based in Irving, Texas, 7 Eleven operates, franchises and/or licenses more than 71,100 stores in 17 countries, including 11,800 in North America. With the 7-Eleven expansion, Instacart collaborates with more than 600 retailers to deliver from nearly 55,000 stores across more than 5,500 cities in North America. 

Uber recently completed a $1.1 billion acquisition of Drizly. The collaboration increases Drizly's retailer count to over 5,500 locations nationwide.
