A contemporary Walmart format will be going up in Celina.

On April 29, Walmart will be the first retail tenant to break ground in Shawnee Trail, a 150-acre master-planned mixed-use project in Celina, Texas, that is being developed by G-Man Development and the Trademark Property Company.

The store at the project will be one of Walmart’s contemporary formats, featuring an on-site fulfillment center as well as support for drone delivery. It will also feature a Walmart fuel station.

“Walmart’s opening is the first of many milestones for Shawnee Trail, where we are integrating neighborhood and community-oriented retail into a vibrant mixed-use environment,” said Trademark’s CEO Terry Montesi. “Our development roadmap going forward emphasizes quality design, a focus on the pedestrian, and vibrant placemaking.”

The first phase of Shawnee Trail is slated to break ground in 2027. The project will be composed of restaurants, entertainment, office space, public spaces, and parks, as well as multi-family housing.

Trademark noted that it and G-Man a subsidiary of the Celina-based real estate firm Glendenning 1887 are aiming to craft a master-planned environment that balances regional-scale retail with walkable elements and open space to serve Celina’s rapidly growing population.

Retail leasing is being handled by Shop Companies, which reports that some 300,000 square feet worth of prospective tenants have expressed interest in Shawnee Trail.

“With Walmart’s upcoming opening and the groundbreaking for our mixed-use development in sight, Shawnee Trail is now tangible, and retailers are letting us know they want to be a part of this community,” said Matthew Kiran, a real estate broker at Rex Real Estate and Glendenning 1887.

Celina has been one of the fastest-growing cities in America in the first quarter of the 21st century. Its population of 1,700 in the year 2000 skyrocketed to more than 60,000 in 2025.
