Mark Toro, who led the development of the highly regarded Avalon mixed-use center in Alpharetta, Ga., while at North American Properties, has given the green flag to bulldozers to begin breaking ground for the first big project of his Toro Development Company (TDC).

Medley, a $560 million, 43-acre mixed-use development in Johns Creek, Ga., an affluent Atlanta suburb, will soon be seeing its foundations forged. A grand opening is expected in the fall of 2026.

“When we first set our sights on this dead, suburban office park, we saw an opportunity to create something truly special — a ‘third place’ where people can come together and experience life outside of home and work,” said Toro, TDC’s chief vision officer.

“Similar to bringing Avalon to life from the rubble of a long-abandoned project, Medley will rise from a sea of empty buildings to become the walkable, urban oasis the Johns Creek community deserves,” Toro added.

Located at the corner of McGinnis Ferry Road and Johns Creek Parkway, Medley will encompass 150,000 sq. ft. of retail, restaurant, and entertainment space. Johns Creek’s custom-made downtown will include a 175-key boutique hotel, 110,000 sq. ft. of office space, 750 multifamily residences, and an activated 25,000-sq.-ft. plaza.

Residents will be also be welcomed to Medley with 133 townhomes to be built by Empire Communities, which claims to be one of North America’s largest privately held homebuilders.

TDC aims to establish Medley as a community center, hosting 200-plus events per year, ranging from outdoor wellness classes and live music to art festivals and watch parties.

More than 25 retailers have committed to leases at the project — among them Sephora, High Country Outfitters, Bodyrok, Petfolk, CRÚ Food & Wine Bar, Lily Sushi Bar, Cookie Fix, Drybar Shops, Burdlife, Pause Studio, and Fogón and Lions.

“A Johns Creek town center was once considered little more than a dream,” said Mayor John Bradberry. “With Boston Scientific almost complete, Creekside Park construction in full swing, and now the official launch of Medley as the premium mixed-use linchpin, our town center is quickly becoming a reality.”
