Wegmans expands Instacart partnership

By Dan Berthiaume - 02/22/2019
Wegmans Food Markets is bringing curbside grocery pickup to more stores, with help from Instacart.

Wegmans will begin offering its curbside grocery pickup at six Rochester, N.Y.-area stores on Feb. 28. The family-owned grocer introduced the service in Rochester in March 2018, and has since added it to another 14 Rochester stores. As of Feb. 28, all Wegmans stores in the Rochester area will offer curbside grocery pickup.

The option enables local Wegmans shoppers to order groceries either from a dedicated Wegmans page on the Instacart website or from the Instacart app, select a pickup time, and pay for their order. Customers will receive an order confirmation with instructions and a phone number to call when they are within 10 minutes of the store.

Upon arrival, customers pull into the designated curbside pickup lane and a Wegmans employee will load their groceries into the car. There’s a $10 minimum for curbside pickup. Once picked by Instacart shoppers, orders are held in a temperature-controlled staging area inside the store until customers arrive.

“Our customers are busy, so when it comes to grocery shopping, they appreciate a range of options that allows them to get the task done with ease, when and how they want,” said Erica Tickle, Wegmans e-commerce group manager. “Now, it’s as simple as placing your order online and picking it up curbside at your convenience, all with no additional delivery fee or tipping.”

Wegmans also offers Instacart delivery throughout its 98 stores in six states. For delivery and pickup, Wegmans adds a price increase to items ordered to cover the cost of Instacart shopping services.
