Walmart’s CTO lands at Pinterest

3/21/2019
Social sharing giant Pinterest has made a big hire.

The company has tapped Jeremy King as head of engineering. The news comes the day after Walmart, in an internal memo, revealed that King was stepping down from his role as executive VP and chief technology officer for a “new adventure.” King, who joined Walmart in 2011, is credited with helping to transform the company from a retailer to an omnichannel behemoth.

At Pinterest, King is succeeding former head of engineering Li Fan who left the company last summer. King will report directly to Pinterest CEO Ben Silbermann, according to VentureBeat. He joins the company as it is ramping up its shopping efforts. Most recently, it introduced new tools designed to ease shopping within the platform.

“Not only is Jeremy a respected engineering leader, but from the moment we met him, we knew his values around putting the customer first were aligned with our own focus on Pinners,” Pinterest CEO Ben Silbermann said in a statement. “As we build products to inspire people to create a life they love, Jeremy’s technical experience and leadership are a perfect combination to build a visual discovery engine for all.”
