Walmart is looking to target busy urban moms with a ‘members-only’ shopping service.
The discounter has rebranded Code Eight, a personal-shopping service developed inside Walmart start-up incubator Store No. 8, as Jetblack, reported
Recode. The new initiative has a website, Jetblack.com, whose landing page notes that “Jetblack is currently in beta in Manhattan.” A button on the page allows users to request early access to the program.
The service is described in job listings as a “members-only personal shopping and concierge service that combines the convenience of e-commerce with the customized attention of a personal assistant,” according to the report.
The “Jetblack” name allegedly comes from Marc Lore, CEO and founder of Jet.com and now head of Walmart U.S. e-Commerce, Recode said. Lore apparently had the idea for a high-end personal shopping service for Jet.com before it was acquired by Walmart in 2016.
