Walmart teams up against hunger with LeBron James

5/16/2019
Walmart is enlisting the aid of one of the world’s most famous athletes to get meals to those in need.

Professional basketball star LeBron James is participating in Walmart’s “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” charity campaign. Through May 20, 2019, customers can purchase items from a special assortment personally curated by James, in-store, online, and via grocery pickup and delivery.

For every item bought, the manufacturer will donate to secure a meal at a Feeding America member food bank. Shoppers can also directly donate to Feeding America at Walmart store checkout and Walmart.com. James’ assortment includes grocery items in categories such as frozen vegetables, juice, chips, crackers, cheese, and pasta and noodles. Participating brands include Campbell’s Soup Company, Kellogg’s, Kraft Heinz, The Coca Cola Company, and Unilever.

“LeBron cares about his community and making it a better place,” Janey Whiteside, chief customer officer, Walmart, said in a corporate blog post announcing the program. “He cares about making a difference, and together we can both make a bigger difference. We share a commitment to improving the communities where we live and work. We’re excited that together we are investing in education, fighting hunger and helping people live better.”

James will also be a part of Walmart’s upcoming back-to school campaign.
