The world’s largest package delivery company could be making a move that would give it entry into the fast-growing category of online furniture delivery.
UPS is in talks with at least one U.S. trucking firm — Werner Enterprises — to launch a delivery service for large, heavy goods, such as couches and treadmills, according to
Reuters. Werner launched its “final mile” model in 2016, and partners with companies to get online products onto customers’ doorsteps.
The new deal could give UPS traction in the furniture delivery business, and help it meet its goal of being a one-stop shipping partner for retailers. Currently, UPS, and rival FedEx, deliver parcels only up to 150 lbs.
