Amazon wants to expand its brick-and-mortar breadth — but just not through retail stores.
The online giant is in the running to acquire Landmark Theaters, a company that operates more than 50 theaters in 27 markets, across New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco, according to
Bloomberg.In addition to bolstering Amazon’s other media offerings, including a
film and TV studio and music service, the movie company would give Amazon a stronger brick-and-mortar presence, the report said.
Landmark’s sweet spot is independent and foreign films, and some high-end locations include coffee bars or lounges,
Bloomberg reported.
