Sears Holdings Corp. has found a way to extend its relationship with Amazon, and it is using its Kenmore brand to do so.
The department store retailer announced Thursday that it is integrating Amazon Dash Replenishment into its Kenmore smart appliances. The move will enable customers to automatically reorder appliance replacement parts from Amazon.
The first line to get the smart technology are Kenmore's smart refrigerators. Integrated with Dash Replenishment, customers can set up automatic replenishment of water and air filters when the appliance detects parts need replacing.
Here’s how the technology works: Appliance owners set up Dash Replenishment through their Kenmore smart app using their Amazon account. They select the water or air filter they want need based on the refrigerator model they own. When it's time for a new filter, owners will be sent the part, in some cases, before they even know they're in need of one.
Sears plans to integrate Dash Replenishment on more smart appliances, including its smart washers, dryers and dishwashers, according to Sears.
"This service presents an entirely new way to get a filter conveniently that will save time, reduce the number of trips to the store and help keep families healthy by maintaining sanitary, filtered water,” said Peter Boutros, president of Kenmore, Craftsman and DieHard brands.
The new deal builds on the Sears’ recent agreement to sell Kenmore appliances on Amazon. The partnership, which launched in July, marked the broadest distribution to date of Kenmore products outside of Sears stores and its websites. Distribution is nationwide, and Sears Home Services and Innovel Solutions units provide delivery, installation, and other services.
Coinciding with the Kenmore launch, Sears began syncing its full line of Kenmore Smart appliances with Amazon’s Alexa. The integration enables customers to control the appliances with a voice command.
Sears continues to extend its partnership with Amazon in other ways as well. For example, this year the online giant began products, including jump starters, battery chargers and maintainers.
Meanwhile, all of the department store retailer’s
Sears Auto Centers nationwide offer full-service tire installation and balancing for customers who purchase any brand of tires on Amazon.
