Report: Walmart moves into Apple’s orchard with tablet
Walmart’s latest reported effort to enter a new market appears aimed at stealing some iPad share from Apple.
According to Bloomberg,Walmart is preparing to release a proprietary tablet computer that would be easy for children to use and come with a low price point. The tablets would run on the Android operating system and be manufactured by Chinese consumer electronics firm Chunghsin Technology Group, but sold under the Walmart ONN private label.
Bloomberg cited photos that appear to be of the tablet, which are located on a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) website. A Walmart spokesperson confirmed that the discounter is planning its own tablet device to Bloomberg, but did not provide information on exact cost or release date.
