Amazon’s new convenience store may not have cashiers, but a new product category will require someone to check shopper IDs.
Along with its sandwiches, salads and snacks, Amazon plans to sell beer and wine from its AmazonGo store in Seattle,
Recode said.
Upon the store’s opening, shoppers will scan an app, and then grab prepared food and drinks off of shelves. A mix of sensors, software and cameras will track merchandise and automatically bill the shopper — enabling them to skip the traditional checkout process.
“When we start offering beer and wine, there will be an associate check-ing identification,” an Amazon spokesperson wrote in an email to
ReCode.
