Regional grocer makes informed decision to protect data

Northgate Markets is protecting business-critical financial and retail data while reducing storage costs.

Northgate, which operates 40 grocery stores in Southern California, has selected the cloud-based Phoenix data storage platform from Druva. As a provider of groceries and prepared food, as well as financial services, Northgate must comply with a variety of domestic and international regulations.

Recognizing that a cloud-based backup and recovery solution could improve visibility and control, increase its ability to meet regulations and lower costs, Northgate turned to Druva’s SaaS-based data management technology. The Druva platform provided a single solution for retaining and managing sensitive data, including 450 virtual machines across two data centers, while meeting data recovery service level agreements and international regulations.

Northgate has realized a cost savings of 60% over its previous hardware-based data storage solution. In addition to cutting the expense of securely storing mission-critical data, Northgate also selected the Druva cloud platform for its ability to offer instant storage scalability, service reliability for compliance, and high performance recovery.

After deploying Druva Phoenix, Northgate also experienced a 70% data storage reduction using Druva’s global deduplication approach. This reduction greatly minimized bandwidth needs, and in turn helped the organization meet its recovery point objectives (RPO) and recovery time objectives (RTO) goal of minutes. The organization was also able to eliminate complex management overhead, legacy solutions, and the need for a multi-vendor approach.

“In looking for a new solution, we wanted a cost-efficient data solution delivered as-a-service where we wouldn't have to manage hardware, but most solutions were a step backward and retrofitted to appear to work for the cloud,” said Harrison Lewis, CIO, Northgate Markets. “Druva’s technology is different. It just works like magic, the IT team loves it, and I can’t imagine any other way to protect our data.”
