Petco expands same-day delivery option

4/24/2019
Petco is offering customers another way to order products online from their local store.

The specialty pet retailer is partnering with Shipt, the same-day delivery service owned by Target, to provide same-day delivery of food, grooming and health products, and supplies for pets from nearly 1,300 stores across the country. Petco says the partnership will give nearly 70 million households access to same-day Petco delivery, in as little as one hour, across more than 200 total markets nationwide.

Petco is not a newcomer to using third-party platforms for same-day online delivery from its stores. The retailer has been offering its PetcoNow same-day delivery service in partnership with Instacart for three years.

However, this collaboration does mark the first time Shipt is working with a pet retailer. In addition to delivering groceries and household products for parent company Target, Shipt also partners with grocery, discount club, and food and beverage retailers, including Piggly Wiggly and Costco.

Shipt’s marketplace gives members the ability to browse, search and shop the in-store assortment of products online. Members can note preferences, choose a one-hour delivery window, and pay for their order within the app. Shipt shoppers select, bag and deliver items.

“We strive to provide a connected, seamless shopping experience that meets the needs of modern pet parents – no matter when, where or how they want to shop with us,” said Karime Benaissa, VP and GM of e-commerce for Petco. “We’re thrilled to add Shipt same-day delivery as another option and a new way for pet lovers to shop our highly curated selection of high-quality pet products.”

Target acquired Shipt in 2017 for $550 million.
