A regional grocer is in the midst of a digital transformation.
Northgate Market, which operates 40 grocery stores in southern California, is implementing the NCR Emerald subscription-based, cloud-enabled platform. NCR Emerald is designed to streamline areas of grocery retail operations including POS, loyalty and promotions, merchandising, integrated payments, and self-service. Leveraging an API-first infrastructure that makes the entire platform accessible to developers via application programming interface (API), NCR Emerald integrates with other applications in the ecosystem to support omnichannel capabilities across physical stores and digital channels.
Northgate Market deployed the platform live in its first store in less than six months, with no business disruption upon launch. The retailer intends to simplify operations while speeding up customer service and improving the customer experience, as part of a plan to accelerate growth.
“NCR Emerald provides us the platform to seamlessly adopt new solutions to help us achieve our strategic vision of a fast and frictionless checkout experience,” said Tom Herman, Northgate Market’s chief customer experience officer.
In addition to this new implementation of cloud-based ERP technology, Northgate has also been transferring other parts of its enterprise to the cloud this year. In
June, the retailer launched an infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) initiative, migrating all its servers from on-premises and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
And in May, Northgate implemented the cloud-based, open-source PIM and master data management (MDM) platform from Pimcore. This provided the grocer with a single framework to
manage information, digital assets, and content that could seamlessly integrate with e-commerce, back office, and POS systems. In
March, the retailer selected the cloud-based Phoenix data storage platform from Druva to streamline compliance with a variety of domestic and international regulations.
