Nordstrom dropping Ivanka Trump brand

2/3/2017

Ivanka Trump-branded items will soon be a thing of the past at Nordstrom.

The department store retailer is winding down its relationship with Trump and has removed her brand from the master line of brands featured on its site. Although Nordstrom cited flagging sales for its decision, the move follows threats of boycott threats and concerns about the first daughter’s conflicts of interest, according to Bloomberg.

“We’ve said all along we make buying decisions based on performance,” Nordstrom said in a statement. “In this case, based on the brand’s performance, we’ve decided not to buy it for this season.”

Nordstrom said each year it typically cuts about 10% of the brands it carries and refreshes its mix with about the same amount. The retailer still has some Ivanka Trump items in stock, and will sell through the remaining inventory.

Nordstrom has been targeted by the grassroots Grab Your Wallet campaign, which calls for consumers to boycott retailers that carry Ivanka Trump or Donald Trump goods.

The department store retailer has been sensitive to the criticism, and has maintained that it was not taking a political position by selling the Ivanka Trump line.

“We hope that offering a vendor's products isn't misunderstood as us taking a political position; we're not," the company said back in November. "We recognize our customers can make choices about what they purchase based on personal views and we'll continue to give them options."
