Microsoft taps LinkedIn exec to head up tech

1/24/2017

Kevin Scott is joining Microsoft in the newly created role of chief technology officer (CTO).

Scott most recently served senior VP of infrastructure at LinkedIn, which Microsoft purchased in June for $26 billion.

As Microsoft’s CTO, Scott will drive strategic, cross-company initiatives to maximize the technology provider’s impact with members and customers. He will report directly to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who said “Kevin’s first area of focus is to bring together the world’s leading professional network and professional cloud.”

Scott will continue to play an active role at LinkedIn as senior VP of infrastructure, and remain a member of LinkedIn’s executive management team. Scott also served as senior VP of engineering and operations at LinkedIn, and held a number of engineering leadership roles at Google and AdMob.

He is also an adviser to several Silicon Valley startups, an active angel investor and founder of the nonprofit organization Behind the Tech.
