Giant/Martin’s sees big potential in same-day delivery
Giant/Martin’s is piloting same-day grocery delivery with a little help from crowdsourced delivery provider Deliv.
Peapod Digital Labs, the e-commerce platform for Giant/Martin’s parent company Ahold Delhaize USA, is looking to Deliv to support same-day delivery of online grocery orders in select ZIP codes in the Willow Grove, Pa. area. Peapod.com, the consumer-facing brand of Peapod Digital Labs, is now offering Giant/Martin customers in Willow Grove one-hour delivery windows, up to four hours in advance.
To take advantage of same-day delivery in the pilot area, Giant/Martin’s shoppers complete their order as usual via Peapod.com and select a one-hour delivery window at checkout. Trained shoppers then hand-pick the order and customers can track their orders and receive notifications when their groceries are on the way. When the Deliv driver arrives, he or she reviews the order with the customer. Previously, Giant/Martin had only offered next-day fulfillment of online orders in Willow Grove.

The pilot is expected to be scaled in the coming months to additional Giant/Martin’s markets and to other brands’ markets where delivery is supported by Peapod.com.
Peapod is actively moving to extend online delivery capabilities across different Ahold Delhaize USA banners. On Feb. 12, Ahold brand Giant Food Stores will debut its first-ever Giant Direct, Powered by Peapod facility in Lancaster, Pa. Done in partnership with Peapod Digital labs, the 38,000-sq.-ft. location will focus on the delivery of online orders. It will offer a pickup option, with online orders delivered directly to customer vehicles that have pulled up outside.
