eBay will provide what it says is a faster, more reliable fulfillment service with free shipping.
Next year, eBay is launching Managed Delivery, an initiative intended to enable sellers with high-volume inventory to meet customer expectations while reducing cost and complexity. Managed Delivery will provide sellers the ability to store, pack and ship their products through expert logistics partners managed by eBay.
The new service will allow sellers to store inventory closer to buyers in strategically located warehouses across the country, which eBay says will result in faster delivery time and lower shipping costs. eBay will support Managed Delivery through a global technology platform, while third-party partners will run the operations.
eBay sellers will be able to manage their inventory through the eBay seller hub and other industry-standard solutions. The new service will give sellers the ability to offer free shipping with what the e-tail giant says will be more reliable and faster delivery, with the goal of driving more sales on eBay.
“A common request we hear from our high-velocity sellers is to help make delivery of high-volume items easy and fast,” said Devin Wenig, eBay president and CEO. “Managed Delivery will be a competitively-priced logistics solution for businesses selling high-volume goods in popular categories like electronics, home and garden, and fashion. The implementation of this service will dramatically lessen the shipping burden on sellers, while improving the shopping experience and making unboxing fun for buyers.”
The service will be available for fulfilling orders placed on eBay and other online platforms. eBay orders will be fulfilled in what the retailer calls “eco-friendly” branded packages. Sellers who qualify for Managed Delivery will receive lower fulfillment costs, dedicated eBay customer service, and enhanced financial and reputation protections on shipments. Buyers will have 100% tracking of orders, so they can monitor orders and know when to expect them, and improved customer support with what eBay says will be simpler and quicker resolution on transaction queries.
eBay is making efforts to streamline delivery as other leading retailers are reducing the fulfillment time for online shipments. Most notably,
Amazon and
Walmart are launching next-day online delivery initiatives.
