C-store chain improves fresh offerings through machine learning, IoT

Love’s Travel Stops is known for its fresh restaurant offerings, so ensuring food quality throughout the supply chain is paramount.

By adding a food temperature monitoring and task logging system from Digi International, the convenience store chain is simplifying employee tasks, and ensuring public health compliance.

“Part of our core values is to 'focus on the customer in everything we do,’ and embrace innovative thinking," said Joe Cotton, director of restaurant services for Love's Travel Stops.

The new platform, which is based on machine-to-machine (M2M) and driven by the Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, addresses both of Love’s goals.

Specifically, the task management application allows Love’s to capture and manage daily tasks and temperature logs on any smartphone. Wireless temperature sensors and IoT technology ensure consistency and compliance with local and company food safety standards.

Meanwhile, enterprise level cloud-based reporting provides real-time insights, allowing managers to continuously improve operational efficiency. Tasks can be assigned and customized by role, defined by time slot or shift and frequency, and set for alert notifications. Data is hosted on servers managed by Digi International.
