Amazon’s unusual annual offer to employees

5/21/2018
Amazon is willing to pay people to quit.

The company offers to pay full-time associates at Amazon fulfillment centers anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000 to leave the company, reported CNBC, with employees eligible after one year of service (the amount is dependent on tenure). However, the employee can never work at Amazon again.

Amazon doesn’t want people to leave—and few people actually take the offer—but it does weed out disengaged workers, according to the report.

"We want people working at Amazon who want to be here," Amazon spokesperson Melanie Etches told CNBC Make It via email. "In the long-term, staying somewhere you don't want to be isn't healthy for our employees or for the company."
