Just in time for the holidays, Amazon is expanding its selection of handcrafted items as it looks to take a bigger share of an online market that has largely been dominated by Etsy.
The online giant announced the launch of a gift shop on its Amazon Handmade microsite, which launched in 2015. The new shop features thousands of giftable, handcrafted items for every holiday, milestone or special occasion — a niche that Etsy has targeted for some time.
“The Handmade Gift Shop takes the stress out of shopping for gifts by providing thousands of one-of-a-kind, handcrafted gifts with the convenience and trust that customers already love about Amazon,” said Katie Harnetiaux, Amazon Handmade.
The Amazon Handmade microsite has grown to encompass 10 categories (e.g. jewelry, home & kitchen, stationary, party supplies and, most recently clothing, shoes and pet supplies). It offers customers hundreds of thousands of handcrafted items from thousands of Artisans across more than 30 countries.
“Every item on Amazon Handmade has a story behind it – and after hearing from customers and artisans, we are thrilled to make gift shopping an experience they will look forward to," said Harnetiaux.
