Staples Gets Gold in Miami

Miami Staples’ store on Biscayne Blvd. in Miami, is the first store in Miami-Dade County, and the first in the chain, to be awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The store provides superior indoor air quality by using only low-emitting materials for adhesives, sealants, paints, coatings, carpet and other building products, and protects and restores habitats by using 100% native plants and shrubs in landscaping. It preserves non-renewable virgin resources by using drywall, steel, concrete, bathroom partitions, carpet and parking stops made from recycled materials during the construction process.

Rainwater is used for plant irrigation, and energy management and thermal comfort is delivered through indoor temperature controls that are adjusted based on occupancy loads and external weather conditions.
