The Google pop-up store is back.
The company will open two retail spaces this week, one in Los Angeles’ West Hollywood section, and the other in New York City’s Flatiron District. Both locations are open from Oct. 19 through Dec. 31, according to the company’s website.
These temporary locations will sell the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smart phones, and the Google Home mini voice-assistant. Other new devices will be added to the assortment as they are released over the next few weeks, according to
The Verge. In the New York City store, merchandise will be featured on product tables that invite customers to test out the hardware. The store also features a VR section where customers can sit on cushiony chairs, and test out experiences through Google's Daydream VR headset, according to
Mashable. The report also revealed there is a section dedicated to the company’s Home Max multiform WiFi speaker. The section is enclosed with walls and a thick glass door to keep the sound inside the room. Here, customers can test the speaker’s capabilities and use the speaker’s voice assistant “Max” to change the volume or select a specific song.
This is not Google’s first try at opening a pop-up operation. Its first effort
dates back to 2011, when it partnered with the U.K.-based retailer PC World. The small, 285-sq.-ft. retail space, called the Chrome Zone, resided in London. It was open for three months.
Google has continued opening temporary stores over the years.
