Amazon is reportedly looking to open a liquor store in San Francisco, with an eye towards making deliveries to Prime Now customers.
According to
Business Insider, the online giant has applied for a license to operate a small, 200-sq.-ft. store adjacent to its warehouse in San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood. The store would be open to customers from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
But Amazon’s main interest is alcohol deliveries. Having the store would allow Amazon to make alcohol deliveries from 8 a.m. to midnight seven days a week. Amazon’s
license application lists Prime Now as the primary owner. Amazon confirmed to Business Insider that the physical store will be used to fulfill liquor deliveries for Prime Now customers within two hours of online orders.
Earlier this week, Amazon also reportedly filed for a license to deliver online purchases of wine in San Francisco. The e-tailer currently offers liquor delivery to Prime Now customers in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Washington, D.C., and the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Manhattan.
