Neiman Marcus testing ‘smart’ mirror; allows shoppers to compare outfits

1/14/2015

New York -- Neiman Marcus is testing interactive mirror technology at its store in Walnut Creek, Calif., that enables shoppers to see how they look in different outfits at the same time. The luxury retailer is set to pilot the technology in two additional locations, including its store in San Francisco.

The MemoryMirror, from MemoMi, allow shoppers to take a short video of themselves wearing an outfit and then compare it side-by-side to another outfit. The customers tries on the clothes, and then goes to the sales floor to stand in front of the “smart” mirror, whose digital screen records the try-on. Two outfits can be looked at side-by-side, and the mirror stores as many views as the customer wants.

The customer also can e-mail the try-on videos or photos to friends for their input, or share on social media. The customer uses a tablet to control the mirror.

“Superior customer service starts with a great overall experience. The Memory Mirror allows our customers to capture a variety of still and video images that can be shared with friends and allow the customer to see how an outfit looks front and back and while moving. The initial introduction resulted in an immediate and positive reaction, and we’re looking forward to delivering this unique experience to more customers as we roll it out into additional stores,” said Wanda Gierhart, CMO at Neiman Marcus Group.
