Nasty Gal makes LEDs the in-store standard

9/1/2015

New York -- Teen fave Nasty Gal is deploying cutting-edge LED technology to show off its on-trend fashions.

The online retailer has opened two brick-and-mortar stores (one in Los Angeles and the other in Santa Monica), and both feature LEDs by Solais Lighting, a division of PowerSecure Lighting and part of PowerSecure International.

“We wanted lighting with a minimalist profile that would highlight the merchandise without the use of bulky trackheads, said Kevin Nolen, director of retail development, Nasty Gal. “We want the consumer’s eyes on the merchandise, not noticing what is in the ceiling.”

Nasty Gal selected Solais’ 22-watt Xi24 LED trackheads with a 25-degree beam angle, 3500K color temperature and 1600 lumens.

In the Melrose Avenue store, Solais track fixtures were installed along the wall cabinets to highlight product displays. The retailer opted for the fixtures in gray to match the stainless steel panels in the storefront window.

In the company’s larger, 9,100-sq.-ft. Santa Monica store, “we went with white Solais trackheads to match the ceiling and line the sides of the sales floor, for a seamless white-on-white effect that really enables our colorful products to stand out,” Nolan said.

“We loved the color options that are available in the Solais line, as well as the flexibility of these fixtures – an important feature to us, because we continually move merchandise around to highlight different colors and products,” he added. “The LED product offerings give us great versatility.”

Nolen said that the response from customers has been great.

“When people don’t talk about the lighting, that’s a good thing, and Solais technology succeeds in focusing attention on the merchandise,” he added. Nolan also said that while Nasty Gal’s specific lighting needs may change from store to store as it rolls out new locations in the future, Solais LEDs will be the standard for the retailer.
