Kum & Go to invest $90 million in building 20-25 eco-friendly stores

11/5/2012

West Des Moines, Iowa -- Kum & Go has announced plans to invest $90 million in building a total of 20-25 new stores in the Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak region of the Centennial State within the next five years.

Kum & Go, the fifth largest privately held company-operated convenience store chain in the United States, is marking the grand opening of its first three stores in Colorado Springs this week.

In addition to these stores, Kum & Go expects to open five more stores in and around the Colorado Springs/Pikes Peak region this year.

Kum & Go is the only convenience store chain participating in the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Volume Program. The company has opened 39 stores using its new building design, which includes numerous environmentally friendly features such as sustainable materials, reflective concrete, a reflective roof, LED lighting, water-saving fixtures and high-efficiency equipment. Of the stores using the new eco-friendly design, five are officially LEED-certified. And, since 2011, every new store has been submitted for certification.
