Ikea to install solar panels on two additional locations
Conshohocken, Pa. -- Ikea plans to install solar energy panels on two East Coast stores: Paramus, N.J., and Stoughton, Mass. Pending governmental permits, the rooftop installation will begin in the new year, with completion expected in spring 2011. The Paramus installation will have 4,600 panels generating 1,354,000 kWh/year, while the Stoughton site will have 2,800 panels generating 725,000 kWh/year.
The plans bring the number of U.S. Ikea locations that will have a solar energy system to a total of 13. These two systems will represent the largest store-top solar installations for Ikea in the United States.
The retailer already has solar energy systems operational in Brooklyn, NY, Pittsburgh and Tempe, Ariz., -- with installation underway on programs at eight locations in California. Additionally, solar water heating systems exist in Charlotte, N.C.; Draper, Utah; Orlando, Fla.; and Tampa, Fla. Also, a geothermal system is incorporated into the store being built and opening Fall 2011 in Centennial, Col.
