Home furnishings giant adding to U.S. footprint
Ikea is expanding its U.S. presence.
The retailer announced plans to open a second Atlanta-area store, in Marietta, Georgia. Ikea has not yet determined an exact timeframe for construction to start or for the opening of the store.
Located approximately 15 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta, the proposed Ikea Marietta store would be built on 34 acres on the western side of Interstate 75.
“After 10 successful years in our Midtown location, we are excited to expand our presence with a new store in the Atlanta area,” said Lars Petersson, Ikea U.S. president.
Ikea said it would evaluate potential on-site power generation to complement its current U.S. renewable energy presence at nearly 90% of its U.S. locations.
There are currently 412 Ikea stores in 49 countries, including 47 in the United States.
